What are Dental Implants?
The implants are tiny titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude through the gums are then attached to the implant. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.
Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or all of the teeth. The goal of teeth replacement in dentistry is to restore function as well as esthetics.
The Procedure:
For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves one to two procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first two to four months following surgery, the implants are at the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures or partial denture and eat a soft diet during this time.
After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Jollydent will attach small posts called abutments that protrude through the gums and will act as anchors for the prosthetic teeth. When the crowned teeth are placed, these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes totally two to four months except in certain cases that may take longer. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.
